This site was set up primarily on the demands of the Match Secretaries to have some method of online entry and the publication of the weekly draw.  Without guaranteed internet access in the Clubhouse or a more expensive computer package, operated by a Match Secretary at home,  I have come up with a compromise - outlined below - entry via the sheet or email on the form below to a dedicated mailbox, and then a GoogleDoc template  would be published after all names were drawn, typed in and a Republish button pressed. It has all been set up.   A printed version would also be put on the board.  Results and handicap adjustments also would be printed.

Apparently [I quote] 'about 200 men want to play at 9 o'clock and 3 people traveling together is a bit of a problem if there is 2 hours difference in their times' - but having hung on the end of endless phone calls trying to reach a human for my Stranraer time, there are 2 sides to every story.

The Office staff are not at our beck and call either.   Online entry is the way of the future; and for private courses in operation  now. All Club officials, paid and unpaid, have to learn - and, even so, will never please everyone.  After designing the site and this set up, to have it abandoned without even trying it, would be an enormous waste of very many [unpaid] hours of my time.   As a believer in democracy  I would ask the men to visit the site, consider the options and put your opinions into the suggestions box or email us.

PROPOSED METHOD of ENTRY  [?]

One proposal is to keep the Entry Sheet on the Notice Board as the first port of call.

Entries could also be sent by email to the Match Secretary before 6pm on [eg] the Wednesday; name and handicap, with preferred time.  Phone or text if desperate but remember it can be easy to miss phone calls even on an answering service.

The Draw would be posted on [eg] Thursday as usual on the board and on the website.

Late entries would be fitted in to the slots allowed us by the DMH and no one will be turned away!  However it will be first come first out in the Ballot Groups and all late entries will have to play after 10am.

The email entry form is below. Can be filled in from here. Name/handicap/time - then 'submit'. Hardly geek coding!

Again, any alternative ideas welcome.

DRAW

RESULTS

They would be printed here  - if they were reported.

e.g.

Member and Guest Day

1st Dave McDade & Guest
2nd George McQuade & Guest
3rd Harry McEwan & Guest

It was four ball b/b with 28 pairs playing.  Pictures and scores would be added if I had them [see Ladies Open]

HANDICAP CHANGES

IF IT IS JUST ONE OR TWO TYPE IT IN SAVE AND PUBLISH; and direct to noticeboard?    Can't so without info.

Of course for a new Match Secretary/Handicap Committee there is a lot of work involved learning the system as in any new post; but no more than following the [manual] instructions set out by the CONGU.

Mistakes can be ironed out, but an  attempt  to try  is needed.

If things do not work out then that is too bad; I have had fun and games trying to remember my computer studies of 12 years ago at Paisley University. I am open to compromise as I am unwilling to dump so much hard work.  If Alex and I can try, so can others.
