Sadly the club has fallen victim to the economic crisis and a few years of 'hands-off' management, and at present is in the hands of the Receivers, Scott - Moncrieff. The main bidder has withdrawn his offer/DMH have not considered it adequate and the members have continued to run the club since December 2011.
Brunston Castle is available to play and is in tremendous condition thanks to the 3 dedicated green staff. We have been lucky with a mild winter and in contrast with most of Scotland, it has been a dry if somewhat cold spring. The winter, spring, summer scenery has been breath-taking and all our visitors - as well as the member - have been delighted that it can hol;d its own with any course in the UK.
Maureen is 'on the desk' as an employee and the committee and Dad's Army have manned the office on a rota basis. Fortunately the Captain Ronnie has an electrical background and has done some sterling work to keep an eye on all the meters and to effect repairs on the buggy chargers, etc. The female side of the Management Committee have provided meals for visiting parties and team matches. Whether they will ever look at pie and beans again is probably highly debatable!
For the Ladies Open etc., a local hostelry provided the buffet and all the Ladies chipped in for the Captain's Prize and Past Captains' post match meals.
We have been 'in the trenches' a couple of times before, and it is absolutely remarkable how much team spirit and determination to keep our course and club afloat has been shown. Visitors and members who only play once a week or so have no idea of the amount of work going on behind the scenes or of the generosity of members to provide free coffee, soft drinks, beers and eats in the absence of a bar. It would be even better if more help was offered from members to take away rubbish, help weed the bunkers, hoover and clean toilets. At which point it has to be said the 'regulars' are well trained now to fill up kettles, wash up after themselves, etc.
